The 2007 Club Hill Climb was once again held on Saturday the 6th October at the usual venue of Prospect Hill, Corbridge. Over 40 riders turned up at the usual venue on a beautiful autumnal morning to ride up and compete or spectate in the event. The weather was very kind this year and road conditions were excellent with no dampness, wind or falling leaves to make conditions hard for those competing.
There was an air of expectancy at the start as the riders signed on, that this year the course record, which has stood for many years, may in fact be broken. There were 29 club members who decided to compete along with 3 guests. Those who were serious seemed to be removing every last unnecessary gram from their bikes and themselves in order to save weight.
Riders were set off at one minute intervals in the order they signed on. The more experienced riders waited until near the end so that they could gauge the opposition and even ride up the hill first to see who were the early leaders and plan their strategy.
In the end the event was keenly contested by all and once again Collin came out as winner with a time of 4 mins 37 secs. However the club record still stands at 4 mins 25 secs. John Brown won the vets award and mention must also go to young Rob for a very creditable ride by coming in 5th equal and Anselma for beating many of the male members.
