On the evening of the 7th June 26 members of the club lined up for the first ever confined club Road Race. This was to be a handicap road race and once the groups had been picked by the handicapper, Peter and the inevitable moans and complaints dismissed, the groups were set off at 2 minute intervals. For some this was there first ever road race and it soon became apparent to them that this was not the usual 3 mile sprint into Belsay but the start of one and a half hours of agony.

Gentle ride up a small hill. NOT.
The groups soon settled down to the task with the weaker ones slowly sliding out the back of their respective group. The scratch group went off at a ferocious pace and soon splintered with Big George (Collin) Matt and Rob charging down on the other riders. The field was soon spread half way around the circuit with many interesting comments being uttered as riders came up the Hill to the finish.

Knew i should have put in more sneaky miles.
By the beginning of the last lap the fearsome threesome had devoured the field and were settling down to see who was Numero Uno. On the final ascent of the climb Matt and Rob were seen jostling for position with many expletives being uttered by both. However with a final kick Rob took the verdict with Collin 10 seconds down on the winner.

Rob ready to strike.
